One Year On: How INS LifeGuardian® Is Saving Lives Every Day

INS LifeGuard • April 25, 2025

It’s been one year since INS LifeGuardian® launched — and in that time, lives have been changed, crises averted, and independence restored.

By combining wearable technology with 24/7 access to qualified nurses, INS LifeGuardian® has become far more than a personal safety alarm. It’s a health companion. A silent responder. And for many, a lifesaver.

Over the past year, we’ve received powerful stories from people whose lives were profoundly impacted by the system. From detecting invisible heart issues to responding after serious falls, the outcomes speak volumes.

Real People. Real Stories. Real Impact.

Margaret’s Story

July 2024: INS LifeGuardian® flagged atrial fibrillation on Margaret’s Apple Watch. A nurse contacted her immediately and advised her to retake the ECG. The reading remained abnormal, prompting her to visit a GP clinic, where further testing confirmed Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). An ambulance was called, and Margaret received timely hospital care. Her husband later thanked the team for likely preventing a serious event.

January 2025: Nurse Sammy noticed Margaret’s heart rate dropped to 36 bpm. Recognising her medications might be the cause, Sammy urged her to see a doctor. Hospital testing revealed dangerously low heart rate and declining kidney function due to overmedication. Treatment and dosage adjustment followed. Another close call, safely navigated.

Poppy’s Journey to Independence

Poppy, 25, has POTS, which leads to falls multiple times a week. LifeGuardian® monitors her heart rate and detects falls via Apple Watch. With its support, she moved into her own place for the first time. Now independent, her mother is reassured that INS nurses are watching for her daughter 24/7.

Rodney's Experience

Rodney, who logs over 30,000 steps a day, had no symptoms. However, INS nurses spotted red flags: heart rate spikes at rest, systolic BP in the 140s, and low oxygen saturation. A report was sent to his GP. A Holter monitor confirmed issues, and he started on Bisoprolol. His heart is now responding well to treatment.

Valerie's Recovery

After a fall shattered her shoulder, Valerie feared losing her independence. Despite being active, her confidence was shaken. INS LifeGuardian® gave her back a sense of security. With her Apple Watch on, she no longer fears being alone: "I don’t need my phone, I’ve got the Watch on."

Claude's Diagnosis

Claude’s Apple Watch data revealed repeated drops in oxygen saturation. INS nurses reached out, leading him to visit his GP. A battery of tests confirmed early-stage lung disease. Thanks to the alert, Claude began treatment sooner, possibly preventing more serious damage.

Karen's Dual Alert

Karen received an alert about an irregular heart rhythm. Although symptom-free, a nurse recommended follow-up. Her GP confirmed the abnormality, and she was hospitalised for defibrillator fitting. Coincidentally, her mother-in-law tried Karen’s Watch days earlier and got the same alert. Both got help just in time.

Alana's Fatigue

Alana felt tired despite full nights of sleep. Reviewing her sleep data, Nurse Shay noticed extended periods of low readings. A detailed report led her GP to uncover a previously undetected condition contributing to her fatigue. She’s now on a targeted care plan.

Suzanne's Emergency

Suzanne fell and injured her face, unable to get up. She used the INS LifeGuardian® iPhone app to trigger an alert. A nurse contacted her husband, who arrived quickly and took her to the hospital. She is now in physiotherapy and rebuilding her confidence.

Andrew's Long-Term Monitoring

Andrew has a known heart condition and is under the care of a cardiologist. INS LifeGuardian®’s ongoing Nurse Reviews helped detect persistent elevated heart rates. Reports sent to his doctor led to medication changes. His health has since stabilised, and he continues to receive monthly support.

These are not rare exceptions—they represent the core of INS LifeGuardian®'s mission: to combine personal health data with real-time human care.

A Year of Life-Saving Highlights

In just 12 months, INS LifeGuardian® has:

  • Responded to thousands of emergency and health alerts
  • Delivered regular Nurse Reviews for users with ongoing medical conditions
  • Supported users in remaining independent at home
  • Flagged critical health issues before any symptoms appeared
  • Provided peace of mind for families and carers across Australia

Behind the scenes, our dedicated team of nurses works day and night to review vital signs, interpret data, and initiate action, whether sending alerts, calling a user, preparing reports for a doctor, or in emergencies, calling an ambulance.

Looking Ahead

We’re continuing to expand, innovate, and integrate while staying focused on what matters most: keeping people safe and cared for in real time.

In the year ahead, the LifeGuardian® app will be updated, new integrations will be added, and there will be even more ways to stay informed and protected.
