Jump to: Before You Start | Setting Up an Evacuation | Sending the Alert | Cancelling | What Residents Receive | FAQ ## This guide covers running an evacuation, real or a practice drill, through the LifeGuard Manager's Portal. ### [Before you start](ANCHOR: Before You Start) Village operators are required to run a full evacuation drill every 12 months, this is a genuine compliance requirement, not just best practice. The Evacuations page lists all past evacuations for your records. ### [Setting up an evacuation](ANCHOR: Setting Up an Evacuation) Starting an evacuation doesn't happen automatically, you set it up first. We don't recommend using Notification Groups, since residents who leave the village aren't automatically removed from a group, and new residents aren't automatically added, meaning the group can go stale. Instead, use the Recipients field to tick exactly who needs to be included, or use the tick box next to the search bar to select everyone at once. ### [Sending the alert](ANCHOR: Sending the Alert) Message type defaults to Custom, using your own message, which is read aloud to residents (repeating, depending on the device) until cancelled. You can also switch to a prerecorded alert or prerecorded drill message, both of which also repeat until cancelled. When an evacuation starts, an SMS also goes out to everyone (this relies on the Telstra network). [Residents with the INS LifeGuardian® app receive a push notification plus an evacuation map on their phone, even if they're away from the village.](ANCHOR: What Residents Receive) Residents without the app who are away from the village won't hear the alert. ### [Cancelling](ANCHOR: Cancelling) Press Cancel Evacuation to stop it, this goes out to every device in the village. The Portal gives you a report afterward showing exactly who the alert was sent to. ## FAQ Q: Do I need to set up an evacuation map? A: We'd recommend it. Upload one under Village > Documents, any resident with the LifeGuardian app receives it automatically during a drill or real evacuation. ## Still need help?
