Knowledge Base | INS LifeGuard

Village managers can nominate staff or residents who hold a current first aid certificate and/or defibrillator training to join INS LifeGuard's Community of Lifesavers. Nominated village heroes are willing to respond in an emergency while paramedics are on their way. ## Why does this matter? Medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrests, can happen unexpectedly. Often the difference between life and death is measured in seconds. Emergency responders do their utmost to reach the scene promptly, but there can be unavoidable delays. That is where a community can step in and bridge the gap. - **Every second counts:** in medical emergencies, especially cardiac arrests, timely intervention can drastically improve survival rates. - **Empowering our community:** recognising and using the skills within a community improves safety and builds unity. - **Building a safety net:** with trained people spread across villages, help is always nearby. ## How can I nominate someone? 1. **Nominate:** identify people in your village who have the training and are willing to help in an emergency. 2. **Inform:** share the initiative with your village community and encourage trained people to come forward. 3. **Connect:** add the nominated people's details to your village response protocols in the [Manager's Portal](/site/8b81d3e3/knowledge-base-2/manager-s-portal-getting-started-dashboard-overview). This lets our LifeGuard clinical staff call them and potentially ask them to attend and assist while waiting for emergency responders. Our aim is simple: to build a community of lifesavers. Community isn't just about being neighbours. It's about looking out for one another. ## Need help? Call [1800 636 226](tel:1800636226) or email us.
