9 Apps for Autism: Helpful Tools to Educate and Assist Your Loved Ones

INS LifeGuard • Oct 24, 2022

Would you like to give yourself or a loved one the gift of peace of mind? INS LifeGuard offers a range of in-home and on-the-go personal and medical alarm options for anyone who wishes to live safely and independently.

High-functioning autism is a relatively new category of the condition. It’s also one of the most misunderstood. While this type of autism doesn’t severely impact a person’s ability to function, it can still be quite challenging.

It may come as no surprise that numerous apps for autism are available to assist people with autism and their loved ones. In fact, there are so many that it can be hard to know where to begin. Below is a list of our favourite apps for aiding those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. With so many options, this article will help you get started in your search.

Medical Apps

LifeGuard SmartMobile

iOS Rating: 5 ⭐ | Android Rating: 5 ⭐

Pricing: Free w/ in-app purchase

The LifeGuard SmartMobile app is one of the best autism apps in terms of features and capabilities. With the built-in GPS locator, nurses can find you in an emergency, talk to you, and send help, even if you can't talk back. It features two-way voice communication, so even if you can't physically answer an incoming call, the LifeGuard SmartMobile app can do it for you in an emergency so they can still talk to you.

Other features include the ability to record vital signs (blood pressure, blood sugar level, pulse, temperature, weight, and ECG) either wirelessly with an approved range of monitors or manually with your own devices. You can always get to the stored data through the free Client Portal; if you want, you can even send an electronic report to your GP. You can also set Geofence alarms to notify people automatically if the user leaves a certain area. This is helpful for people who may wander off.

LifeGuard SmartCarer

iOS Download | Android Download

This app allows you to monitor the whereabouts and activities and receive alerts if they wander off or are in danger. You may use the LifeGuard SmartCarer app to communicate with the LifeGuard SmartHome medical alarm system for someone you care for.

Family, caregivers, and village staff can all get alerts of alarms and critical events, modify the user's information, keep track of any vital signs recorded via the free TeleHealth Service, establish Geofence regions that notify you when the user enters or leaves certain areas, and monitor their health.

Note that both these apps can be purchased out of your own pocket and can be supported as well by NDIS.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for ‘core’ and ‘capacity building’ supports. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can access these supports if they are eligible for the NDIS.
